Melanoma risk reduced in patients with atopy: study
Study suggests atopy may be protective against skin damage leading to cancer.

Atopy is associated with a reduction in the risk for melanoma, according to a Nordic study published in Melanoma Research.
Dr Jenni Komulainen, from the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio, and colleagues examined whether a past or present atopic disorder is associated with cutaneous photodamage, pigment cell naevi, and skin cancers among 496 adults at risk for any type of skin cancer, including 94 with immunosuppression.
