Methotrexate overdose prompts safety warning

Authorities have issued fresh warnings about the dangers of methotrexate, following an accidental overdose in a NSW patient prescribed a low-dose regimen of the drug.

In a safety alert to health professionals, the National Prescribing Service said low-dose methotrexate was increasingly being used to treat autoimmune or inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriasis.

However, the recent case highlighted
