Migraines linked to stroke post-surgery

Patients about to undergo surgery may soon be asked whether they have a history of migraine, after an international study found a higher risk of stroke and hospital readmission among surgical patients who suffer from the head-splitters.

The risk was highest for those who have migraine with aura, researchers say.

The new thinking is that migraine should now be included in an individual’s risk assessment of stroke before undergoing surgery.
