Miscoding of HbA1c tests could cost GPs

Practices are potentially missing out on thousands of dollars in diabetes Service Incentive Payments each year because of incorrectly worded HbA1c requests.

The issue has been highlighted by Dr Ka-Kiu Cheung, a GP in Broadbeach, Queensland, who told Australian Doctor that HbA1c tests for diagnosis were being incorrectly coded for monitoring in pathology company Medicare claims.
