MLs should be handed mental health reform role

AML Alliance chair Dr Arn Sprogis welcomed the establishment of the Partners In Recovery (PIR) network, a federal government program that will put a mental health coordination service in each of the 61 ML regions, but said rather than put the contracts to tender the role should have gone straight to MLs.

It came after Mental Health Minister Mark Butler called for non-government organisations to apply to become PIRs and indicated the government would welcome applications from consortia involving MLs. PIRs are expected to coordinate the sometimes complex needs
