MO writing comp spurs on winner
GP REGISTRAR Dr Jonny Levy hadn’t had much time for fiction writing since he left high school to begin his medical education, but he did have some stories half-formed in his mind.
So when he saw the 2010 MO Short Story Competition advertised last year, he took some time to flesh out one of those stories – a supernatural thriller set in a nursing home – and submit it.
“I was really chuffed to have won the competition. That was really a great surprise,” he told MO.
Dr Levy said the demands of his job meant writing often took a back seat, but his experiences since relocating his family from London to rural WA 18 months ago, followed by a recent move to Melbourne, had provided plenty of material for future bouts of creativity.
“It was a real change of pace... It was really an idyllic lifestyle [in the country], especially for the kids,” he said.
