Moderate drinking cuts retinopathy risk in type 2

Moderate consumption of white wine, champagne or fortified wines dramatically cuts the odds of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 patients, Victorian research reveals.

The study of nearly 400 Melbourne-based diabetes patients shows moderate drinking roughly halves the chances of diabetic retinopathy, after adjusting for a range of potential confounders including age, gender, diabetes control and duration, insulin use, smoking and BMI.
