Money should return to health if means test is passed: AMA
After years of trying, the federal government is understood to finally have the numbers to pass a bill stripping wealthier Australians of assistance when paying for private health cover.
With the crucial support of the Independents and Greens, the bill is expected to be passed as early as this week. The government has said it expects to save $2.4 billion in three years with the bill.
But the AMA said instead of putting the money into general revenue to help achieve its much-advertised budget surplus, the savings should go back into health.
