More talk needed on alcohol and pregnancy

Women are receptive to messages about abstaining from alcohol in pregnancy but GPs are reticent about broaching the subject for fear of being judgemental, alcohol experts say.

A new campaign has been launched by the government to encourage GPs and other health professionals to discuss the risks of alcohol in pregnancy, and to press home the NHMRC guideline advice that not drinking is the safest option.
