Mummies reveal mystery of atherosclerosis

Lead author cardiologist Dr Randall Thompson said the common assumption was the rise in levels of atherosclerosis was predominantly lifestyle-related. 

“Our findings seem to cast doubt on that assumption, and at the very least, we think they suggest our understanding of the causes of atherosclerosis is incomplete, and it might be somehow inherent to the process of human ageing,” Dr Thompson said.
