National cancer registry likely by 2017

State-based Pap test registers will be abolished and replaced with a single National Cancer Screening Register that will also incorporate bowel cancer screening data, according to the Department of Health.

The merger of cancer screening registries is to be implemented by 2017 to coincide with the renewal of the National Cervical Screening Program that will see Pap tests replaced with HPV tests, according to request-for-tender documents released last month.
