Navigating the MBS now easier as service unveiled
The service, announced by Human Services Minister Brendan O’Connor, will allow GPs to email questions about MBS items and receive an answer within 10 days.
AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said the service would provide GPs with peace of mind.
“The MBS is very complex and there are many grey areas,” he said.
“If questions are raised about interpretations of MBS items, doctors can now refer to the written advice they have received from the department and ask for it to be considered should there be any investigations.”
Dr Hambleton said the department deserved congratulations for recognising the need for a mechanism to help doctors “navigate the complexities of the MBS”.
“We are pleased that enquiries sent to this email address will be handled by a centralised specialist team, who are trained to respond to these often complex MBS interpretation questions,” he said.
