NDIS fails to relieve litigation pressure

The medical profession's immediate hopes for a no-fault compensation scheme to fund the care of the disabled seem to have evaporated with the coming rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The scheme, designed to fund the long-term care costs of people with permanent disabilities, passed through the House of Representatives last week.

But medical defence organisations are stressing there will be little relief in pressure to litigate against doctors.
