NDIS may spark rise in medical lawsuits

The Federal Government’s landmark National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) could trigger lawsuits against doctors and lead to a medical indemnity fee hike, medical defence organisation Avant warns.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard introduced long-awaited legislation to create the agency that will roll out the NDIS into the lower house of Parliament Thursday, watched by about 60 disability advocates from the public gallery.

But Avant has released a statement saying that while it supports measures to enhance the quality of life of people
