New look at curbs on HIV-positive doctors

The ban on HIV-positive doctors performing exposure-prone procedures is to be reviewed by the Medial Board of Australia, as part of a wider policy consultation on bloodborne infections, Australian Doctor has learnt.

The news follows an announcement by the UK's Chief Medical Officer (CMO) that the country will end its ban in April next year on HIV-positive healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, midwives and dentists, performing high-risk procedures.
