New pre-IVF genetic test used in Australia for first time

A new pre-IVF implantation test that uses DNA fingerprint identification to detect defective genes has been used successfully in Australia for the first time - resulting in the birth of two apparently healthy babies.

The technique, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) with karyomapping, means patients who know they are carriers of a genetic disease can have their embryos tested, fertility specialists say.
