New push for babies to eat eggs

Parents should be encouraged to give their babies eggs from six months of age, say nutrition experts, after a randomised controlled trial found that eggs significantly improve growth in young children.

In fact, the researchers found that eggs increased growth and reduced stunting by 47%.

Lead author, Associate Professor Lora Lannotti says that while the nutritional benefits of eggs is widely known, this effect on a child's growth was much greater than expected.

“We were surprised by just how effective this intervention proved to be," she says.
