New recruit for GP drive in Top End
The network involves hospital-based interns promoting general practice to their peers and is an initiative of General Practice Registrars Australia, with 44 GP ambassadors in 42 teaching hospitals across Australia.
Dr Andrea Wilson is the new addition to the network, based at Royal Darwin Hospital, and membership of the 18-month-old network currently stands at more than 1800.
Dr Wilson said many junior doctors undertook their medical studies with the intention of becoming a GP. “The Going Places Network plays an important role in filling the gap in the hospital environment where general practice is often forgotten about,” she said.
“[The initiative] offers a support and information network for all junior doctors considering a career in general practice, no matter where they are based.”
