New rules for dispensing schedule 8 drugs
26th July 2017
Queensland pharmacists will soon have to submit weekly rather than monthly reports when they dispense schedule 8 medications.
The goal is to provide an up-to-date database to help doctors identify doctor shoppers.
Queensland Health will consult pharmacists and doctors before implementing the change, says Health Minister Cameron Dick.
Queensland is one of a few states that require pharmacists to record dispensing of prescription painkillers.
The details are entered into a database which doctors access via a telephone inquiry.
Queensland will also consider options for real-time reporting later this year.
