New study estimates bleeding rates in children after tonsillectomy
Slightly more than 2% of children returned to ED or hospital with postoperative bleeding

Just over 2% of children experience post-tonsillectomy bleeding requiring ED or hospital care, according to a study published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr Romaine Johnson, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and colleagues estimated the probability of bleeding after paediatric tonsillectomy using data from the Pediatric Health Information System database (96,415 children; January 2016 to August 2021).
