New system lets GPs prescribe cannabis in hours

The online process is so easy it's not worth becoming an authorised prescriber, says the first Australian GP to do so

The first Australian GP authorised to bypass government bureaucrats when prescribing medical cannabis says she may drop the endorsement, claiming the TGA’s new fast-track approval system has made it unnecessary for most doctors.


In May, Associate Professor Vicki Kotsirilos became the first GP authorised to prescribe medical cannabis products without needing to first get approval from the TGA — reducing the approval time for a script from more than a week to just two hours.

The authority allowed the Melbourne GP to prescribe three products without first going
