New understanding of pancreatic cancer

Australian scientists have taken a step towards developing an early detection strategy for inherited pancreatic cancer.

Their study of more than 700 Australian patients with pancreatic cancer shows nearly 9% have a familial history, with at least one parent or sibling with the disease.

When the researchers examined the pancreas tissue adjacent to the cancer in all study participants, they found more pre-cancerous tissue in those whose first-degree relatives also had the disease.
