New York pharmacy makes a point with ‘man tax’

A New York pharmacy has introduced a 7% “man tax” in an attempt to highlight the fact that many products aimed at women are more expensive than similar products aimed at men.

Thompson Chemists announced its new policy on Monday with signs on its Soho shopfront.

 Owner Jolie Alony told the news site Gothamist that she made the controversial move to help educate men about the higher costs of essential goods to women, highlighted in a study by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs.
