Newer anticoagulants cut haemorrhagic strokes

The new-generation anticoagulants dramatically reduce rates of intracranial haemorrhage compared with warfarin but at a cost of increased gastrointestinal bleeds, a large meta-analysis finds.

Crucially, the new agents also reduce all-cause mortality and overall rates of stroke or systemic embolism, researchers found, after pooling four key clinical trials.
