Study finds numerous adverse events associated with montelukast

The common asthma medication montelukast is linked to neuropsychiatric reactions such as depression and aggression, with nightmares especially problematic in children.


Reporting in the journal Pharmacology, Research and Perspectives, the authors delve into the safety profile of the drug.

In their retrospective study using both a Dutch and a WHO global database, researchers found montelukast was associated with numerous adverse events, with depression most frequently reported among adults and children.

There was also a high incidence of
