No cough and cold meds for under 6s: TGA

Cough and cold medicines should not be given to children under the age of six, a review by the drugs and therapeutics watchdog has concluded.

And for six to 11 year-olds the over-the-counter medicines should only be administered on the advice of a doctor, pharmacist or nurse, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has said.

The TGA review says that although there are no immediate safety risks from cold and cough medications there is evidence that they may be potentially harmful.
