No GP ‘stupid enough’ for this rural role

Dr Francois Pretorius quit his job in the rural South Australian town of Penola in March after just a year.

He said the state-owned practice refused his request for one evening off a week or one weekend off a month, while insisting he remain within 20 minutes of the practice.

Country Health SA, the current practice owner, has since said its attempt to lure a private practice owner failed, leaving it to staff the town with locums indefinitely.

With a population of 1500, Penola is in the Country South SA Medicare Local
