No need to change blood pressure targets

There is no compelling reason to change the current hypertension guidelines despite a landmark trial showing that a level of less than 120 mmHg is beneficial in high-risk patients, argues a leading hypertension expert.

Writing in the ESC E-Journal of Cardiology Practice, Professor Robert Fagard from Belgium’s University of Leuven, recommends against lowering the internationally accepted current systolic blood pressure target of 140mmHg for hypertensive patients.
