No negative effects for ovarian screen

The United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) — the main findings of which are not expected until 2015 — recruited 202,638 postmenopausal women aged 50 and older between 2001 and 2005.

Of those, 50,640 received annual screening using the CA125 serum test, interpreted via a risk algorithm and followed by a trans-vaginal ultrasound, if necessary, as a second line test. A further 50,639 women were assigned to an annual transvaginal ultrasound only, and the rest acted as controls and received no screening.
