In a cross-sectional survey of 1705 men aged 70 or older, researchers from the University of Sydney reviewed all current prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Participants were also assessed for health, frailty, physical activity and self-reported pain status as well as demographic variables.

While overall use was relatively low, among those men who were using a prescribed NSAID, regular use was more common (8.9%) than use on an as-needed basis (2.9%) with those prescribed the drugs using them for an average duration of 4.9 years
