One-year colonoscopy delays raise concerns

Bowel cancers may be missed because patients are having to wait a year or more for a colonoscopy, a Tasmanian GP says.

Hobart-based Dr Graeme Alexander says he knows of patients with bowel cancer symptoms waiting 12 months for a colonoscopy in the public health system.

He said that some patients had received a letter encouraging them to get private health insurance to speed up the process.
