One year suspension for accessing child porn

In May 2011 former Geelong Hospital ICU nurse Peter William Omant received an 18 month suspended prison sentence and was put on the sex offenders register for life after pleading guilty to three charges relating to accessing the illegal material, some which included bestiality, over the internet over four years. He was put on a good behaviour bond for two years, which expired in May this year, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) said.

Earlier this month, the tribunal found Mr Omant guilty of serious professional misconduct, formally reprimanded him, and suspended his registration for a year.

He may only return to nursing on the condition that during suspension and for another year he undertake psychotherapy, supervision, and not undertake any duties that involve a person aged under 18.

The tribunal heard Mr Omant, now in his late 50s, worked at the hospital for more than eight years with patients who "often died very quickly".
