Only one in 12 after-hours patients 'genuine', GP alleges

A row has broken out in Queensland, with a GP accusing a new deputising service of making mostly unnecessary after-hours home visits.

Dr Gaston Boulanger (pictured) claims just one in 12 of his patients seen during a home visit by House Call Doctor, which arrived in Gladstone in Central Queensland last August, required urgent care.

The figure, which is disputed by the deputising service, was based on an analysis of case summaries for 47 home visits faxed by House Call Doctor to Dr Boulanger's practice.
