Operation continues despite cardiac arrest

A Sydney plastic surgeon and an anaesthetist went ahead with an elective septorhinoplasty within 45 minutes of a patient having a cardiac arrest that required resuscitation and three defibrillations.

And while expert testimony at a Professional Standards Committee inquiry was divided on whether the surgery should have been cancelled, the doctors have both been reprimanded “in the strongest possible terms” for failing to act in the best interests of the woman.
