OTC codeine likely to stay until 2017

Moves to take OTC codeine products off the shelves and make them prescription-only will not be implemented until at least 2017, says the head of the TGA.

Speaking at a Senate hearing on Thursday, Adjunct Professor John Skerritt (pictured) said the deferral of the TGA's interim decision to reschedule codeine products would last until May 2016, when a final decision would be made.
