Path labs move to non-fasting lipid testing
Patients will soon no longer need to fast before lipid testing as path labs adopt new international guidelines that recommend the use of non-fasting blood samples.
The advice comes from an international panel convened by the European Atherosclerosis Society, which includes Australian and US experts.
After reviewing the latest evidence, the panel concluded there was no advantage in using fasting over non-fasting lipid levels for assessing cardiovascular risk.
