Patient enrolment on the cards, says health dept

A senior federal health official has raised the spectre of voluntary patient enrolment with general practices, declaring it was an idea whose “time is coming”.

The concept has been pushed by the RACGP, which argues voluntary enrolment would ensure patients are guaranteed a so-called “primary care medical home”, which in turn leads to improved outcomes for marginalised, chronic and complex patients.
