Patient hand hygiene poor

Hospitalised patients are an unhygienic lot, according to research that shows they commonly neglect to wash their hands after going to the toilet.

The eight-month study of almost 300 Canadian patients shows they wash their hands only 30% of the time after toileting, 40% of the time before meals and only 3% of the time when using ward kitchens.
