Patient sues GP over pokies addiction

A woman is suing a GP for almost one million dollars, alleging he kept prescribing a drug known to cause compulsive behaviour despite being told she was losing money playing pokies.

In a statement of claim lodged with the Supreme Court of Queensland this month, Margaret Faith Rimmer is seeking $982,500 in damages — including $100,000 for alleged past economic loss — from Dr Zoltan Bourne whom she accuses of negligence over his prescribing of Sifrol for restless leg syndrome over several years.
