Patients face long waits for pain care

Doctors struggling to get patients into pain management services can be reassured they are not alone — the average wait time is five months just for an initial assessment, a study reveals.

In a national snapshot of chronic pain services in Australia, researchers found pain patients faced a median wait of 150 days to be assessed by publicly funded outpatient pain clinics, following referral.
