Patients OK with doctor pharma payments

A Galaxy Research survey conducted on behalf of GSK and released yesterday confirmed consumers were worried about the impact of pharmaceutical sponsorships but were much more accepting of the practice when the purpose of the funding was explained.

More than half of the 1007 Australians aged between 18 and 64 surveyed were concerned pharmaceutical sponsorship might compromise a doctor’s integrity (54%), lead to patients not receiving the best medicine (52%) or influence a GP's advice (72%).

Most respondents (90%) had negative views about pharmaceutical company payments to health practitioners, but 79% approved
