Patients satisfied with GP experience

The report, Patient Experiences in Australia, revealed that four out of five people had visited a GP in the past 12 months and that 88% of patients felt their GP had “always or often” spent enough time with them.

AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said GPs should be heartened by the results.

“If you had surveyed GPs, I think they would probably say they wanted to spend even more time with patients,” he said.

“But this is a great statistic, and it is good to see people are still prioritising their health and seeing their GP despite the hard economic times.”

The report wasn’t all good news for GPs though, with more than 15% of patients waiting longer than they felt acceptable to get an appointment, and 8% delaying an appointment or not making one at all due to cost.
