Pharmacies have started filling the first subsidised prescriptions for the new super-expensive hepatitis C anti-virals, leading to cash flow concerns because of the gap between supplier payment terms and PBS payments.

The four drugs, which cost up to $67,000 for a three-month, are so effective that they have been described as a penicillin moment for the treatment of hep C.
A full course has a 95% cure rate, says Associate Professor Amany Zekry, chair of the Australian Liver Association.
