People power sees GP return to rural town
A GP who quit her rural community when the practice she worked in was bought out by a corporate has returned after raising money to buy her own clinic.
Dr Margaret Swenson left the Moranbah Town Centre Surgery in rural Queensland last year when it was taken over by Sonic HealthPlus.
She said she made the decision because she disliked what she saw as a corporate medicine model.
But a campaign was then launched by the community, with nearly 400 patients signing a petition urging her to return.
