Pharma can continue to self-regulate

Medicines Australia (MA) wanted ACCC authorisation to use its code of conduct to hold member companies to account for the next five years, but in a draft determination the watchdog said it would only allow three years in order to ensure the code of conduct stayed up to date.

“Community expectations of disclosure by the pharmaceutical industry have increased and continue to increase. In light of this, the ACCC considers Medicines Australia could go further in ensuring the code meets these expectations now and in the future,” ACCC chair Rod Sims said.
