Pharma regulation in spotlight after $40K fine
Sanofi Aventis was initially found not to have breached the Medicines Australia (MA) code of conduct when its expert spokesman Dr Charles Inderjeeth appeared on Perth radio to discuss the drug Actonel and subsequently mentioned the product name 15 times.
The interview followed a press release from Sanofi via a public relations agency also mentioning the product.
But on appeal by a member of the public, MA ruled Sanofi breached two sections of its code related to promoting prescription products to the public and making promotional claims in press releases.
