Pharma spends $20m on doctor hospitality under austerity regime

Pharma companies spent $20 million on hospitality for doctors and health professionals under a new austerity regime that came into force last year.

The spend ran the full gamut of extremes, from $10 lunches at medical centres to a 14-day European trip for five oncologists, according to the mandatory disclosures lodged by 37 pharma companies.

The money, which covers the period 1 April 2015 to 30 September 2015, is the first to be outlayed under a new code of conduct which bans companies from spending more than $120 per head on
