Pharmacies accused of confusing patients
A Dutch researcher has accused Australian pharmacies of presenting a “controversial combination” of clinical information and commercial messages on their websites.
The problem is patients can confuse commercial advertising for professional advice, leading them to buy unnecessary or harmful products, says Sandra Zwier from the centre of health communication at the University of Amsterdam.
She’s just analysed 200 pharmacy websites across Australia, the UK, the Netherlands and Canada.
