Pharmacies misleading patients over Lipitor

Pharmacies have been accused of misleading and deceptive conduct for telling patients they can no longer fill prescriptions for Lipitor since generic versions of the statin came on the market.

Pfizer, who makes the drug, confirmed on Friday it had written to more than 40 individual pharmacies about misinformation about Lipitor.

It followed 257 phone calls the company said it had received from concerned patients reporting they had been told the drug was “no longer available”, “not manufactured any more” or that it “has been replaced
