Pharmacists celebrate government windfall

Pharmacists have won more than a billion dollars from the Federal Government for a major expansion of their role in patient care.

Despite her warning of a fiscal meltdown if spending is not controlled, Health Minister Sussan Ley signed the 6th Community Pharmacy Agreement on Wednesday, which will see pharmacies get $1.26 billion for “professional services”.

The new deal offers double the funding of the previous agreement. Pharmacies will receive payments for providing dose-administration aids, advice to prevent medication adverse events
